Do you and your child disagree on everything, from clothes to bedtime to Facebook to taking out the trash? Hooray!! Thats a good thing. You can turn family turmoil into comedy gold in the "My Family Is A Joke" classes offered by the South Orange/Maplewood (New Jersey) Adult School on Saturdays, March 5-26th.
Over the course of four sessions, this class will allow kids and their parents (or grandparents) to use the principles of creativity and comedy to tell their side of everyday family experiences and to make each other laugh.
Through in-class exercises, coaching, practice sessions and hilarious homework (watching and analyzing TV shows), kids and their parents will create a unique stand-up comedy routine together. Warning: This class might teach kids about logic, composition, character development and vocabulary.
The instructor is Phoebe Tree (B.A. 1977), a communications expert who has performed at the Hollywood Improv and Los Angeles, the New York Comedy Club and Yale University. Also, she performed a PowerPoint presentation for NASA.
For kids ages 9-14 and one parent (or grandparent). Tuition includes one child and one parent. Fee: $100.
