When:   February 20, 2010 10:30am
Where:   LC and Dwight Hall
Type:   Volunteer Opportunity

We write to invite you to join us at the Connecticut Academic Decathlon State Competition on Saturday, February 20th.

Academic Decathlon is the premier academic compeittion for high school students in the country, with a rigorous curriculum in Economics, Essay, Art, Interview, Language and Literature, Math, Music, Science, Social Science, and Speech. Students will be asked to consider these topics in relation to the 2009-2010 theme, "The French Revolution."

(Please visit www.usad.org if you would like more information about the competition.)

We will be hosting the competition in Linsly-Chittenden Hall (63 High St, New Haven) at Yale University, and we would like to invite you to join us as judges, interviewers, and essay readers.   This will be a great opportunity to interact with Connecticut students hailing from all parts of our state and help us celebrate academic competition as much as athletic competition is celebrated elsewhere.

We are looking for 6 volunteers to judge essays, and about 20 volunteers to judge speeches and conduct interviews. No prior experience required, and training will be provided on site.

Essay judges are needed in LC from 10:30am to 12:30pm.  It's going to be 20 minutes of training and one and a half hour of essay reading, followed by a complimentary lunch.

Speech/interview judges need to be at Dwight Hall from 3:15 pm to 5:15.  It'll be 20 minutes training with snacks and 1.5 hour speech/interview judging, followed by a complimentary dinner.

Interested volunteers should email  This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript  with their commitment and preference for essay, speech, or interview. Volunteers do not need to state a preference, and we would actualy appreciate that because it will give us the flexibility we need to fill all the necessary spots.  All assignments will be confirmed by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, February 18th.

Please let either of us know if you have any questions or if you need help with organizing logisitics.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing all of you there!
