Garden Design Competition sponsored by New HavenLand Trust and Architecture for Humanity New Haven

Visit http://www.afhnh.org/ to register.

The New Haven Land Trust and Architecture for Humanitys New Haven chapter are excited to open registration and invite submissions to a design competition for the Grand Acres community garden, 47 Grand St., in New Havens Fair Haven neighborhood.

The contest invites entrants to design an element or elements improving the gardens functionality and appearance, including seating, signage, rainwater collection systems, tool sheds, fencing, planters, walkways, and/or patios. The winning design will be built in spring 2010, and the winning designer(s) will receive a $100 cash prize sponsored by Atelier Ten environmental design consultants.

The four-member jury includes Dean Sakamoto FAIA, LEED AP of Dean Sakamoto Architectures, New Haven and Shavaun Towers FASLA of Towers Golde Landscape Architects, Land Trust president Chris Randall, and Land Trust Gardening Committee chair Benjamin Gardner. Judges will select a winning design on the basis of its aesthetics, durability and feasibility on a $750 construction budget. Entrants are encouraged to use salvaged materials in their designs.

We invite individuals or teams to register for the competition. The registration fee is $15.  Submissions are due by May 3.  The winning design will be announced on May 24, and built over the summer by the NHLT in their Grand Acres Community Garden.  To register and for more information, including photographs and a sketch plan of the Grand Acres garden, please visithttp://www.afhnh.org/
