On May 4, 2006, New York Philomusica presents Shostakovich Centennial, a celebration of the hundredth birthday of the great Dmitri Shostakovich, featuring great fugues of Shostakovich, Bach and Mozart. Pianist Jerome Lowenthal joins as guest artist for a program featuring Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 110; Piano Quintet in G Minor, Op. 57; and Prelude and Fugue in B Major, Op. 87; J. S. Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in B Major, BWV 892, and W. A. Mozart’s Fantasy and Fugue in C Major, KV 394. The concert will take place at 8 pm, with a pre-concert lecture at 7:30.
