Ranya presents three of her intermediate/advanced dance students (Zahirah, Majidah, and Malena) at with live music by Scott Wilson's Efendi! Thalia will be the featured dancer while Ranya takes it easy on her knee. Ranya will get up and do an informal dance too! :-)

Ranya performs downstairs as guest artist; Kaeshi of Bellyqueen is event host and also performing; with live music by Djinn. Also performing are Ranya's intermediate/advanced dance students Nisreen (in from Minnesota!), Tais, and Tahiya, plus a group piece from Ranya's fabulous YMCA dancers!

Artlog was launched in NYC in January 2008 by a Pierson College graduate from the class of 2002.  Artlog has created a free, open platform for galleries, artists, people working in the art industry and art enthusiasts to share work, events and perspectives. The directory currently includes detailed event information, scholarly work, images, multimedia content and news for venues, events and artists across the United States. The Artlog staff highlights exhibitions, openings, parties and lectures in its weekly calendar. Artlog features select museums, galleries, member-artists and events throughout the site. Recent original content includes curator interviews, gallery tours and a database of art crimes from around the world. Artlog also provides daily news and original blog entires from its staff and members.

The Artlog community is unique; it is made up of professionals (particularly young professionals), artists, curators, dealers, gallery owners, museum insiders, collectors and art lovers. The community is growing rapidly.

Microfinance lending institutions have traditionally been recognized for making small loans to the poor in developing countries a market considered too small, too expensive, and too risky for conventional lenders. Repayment rates, however, have been remarkably high, and over the last few decades this market has quietly grown to include more than 10,000 micro financiers around the globe, providing around 17 billion in capital. Conventional lenders have taken serious notice and this market is estimated to grow to over $250 billion in the next 10 years.

Our distinguished panel of experts and practitioners will address these important developments from the perspective of global capital markets, governments, and NGOs, and will examine the various opportunities, pitfalls, and ethical implications of whether it is possible to balance financial return and social responsibility.

Through his books, translations and articles, Donald Keene has helped shape the English-speaking world's understanding of Japanese culture. Few Americans or Japanese have been as deeply and broadly engaged with Japanese culture as Dr. Keene, whose work ranges from translations of classic works of premodern and contemporary literature and drama to insightful books about modern Japan that have become standards in the field. This evening, Dr. Keene, Shincho Professor Emeritus of Japanese Literature at Columbia University and recipient of The Order of the Rising Sun, the second highest honor that can be bestowed on an individual by the Japanese government, reflects on his more than 60-year career as a leading scholar of both traditional and modern Japanese culture. Moderated by Thomas Hare, Professor of Comparative Literature, Princeton University.
