Join us for an exciting Public Address to the Yale community by one of the leading figures in the environmental movement in the United States, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) President Frances Beinecke. After graduating as a member of Yale College's first class of women and then from the Forestry school, Ms. Beinecke joined the NRDC. The newly-formed environmental group was founded in 1970 by graduates of Yale Law School. Ms. Beinecke has spent her entire career at the NRDC, and she took over as only the second president of the Council in January 2006. Today the NRDC is widely thought to be the nations most influential and effective environmental organization, with approximately 650,000 members and 300 employees dedicated to working on critical issues concerning energy, pollution, land-use, and resource-conservation. This Address is brought to you by the Curran Distinguished Mentor Program, a Dwight Hall program that aims to provide students with access to role models who have demonstrated life-long commitments to promoting the public good of the nation. Including Joseph Haydn’s Quartet in C Minor, Op. 17, No. 4, HobIII:28; Bernard Garfield’s Quartet (1950) for bassoon and string trio; and Schubert’s Octet in F, Op. 16 (D. 803), the concert features bassoonist John Miller, principle bassoon of the Minnesota Orchestra. Seth Sharp, BK '94 will be singing songs from his new live jazz album "A Song For You" at the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe on December 26, 2006. Seth, who has been living and making quite a name for himself in Iceland is returning to New York to do a concert after more than a year and a half of being away. The concert features songs from Seth's vocal jazz album, which he recorded with his Icelandic band, The Black Clock. The band has taken jazz standards as well as techno songs and house songs and put a live jazz feel to them. The album has been enjoying radioplay on Independent radio stations in the US and in Denmark. This will be Seth's only performance in New York before returning to Iceland for several shows and then off to perform in several countries in Africa on behalf of the US embassy.
