Who We Are:
ACF (www.alexcap.org) is an organization founded in memory of Alex Capelluto, a 20-year old at Yale who was struck and killed by a truck as he was riding his bicycle, days before starting out on a Habitat for Humanity cross-country bicycle ride.  ACF awards grants to high school and college students.  In its first year, ACF has awarded two community service grants and funded over 100 college students.

Join the City Year New York Associate Board for an evening to benefit City Year's work in New York City's public schools.  City Year is an AmeriCorps program that unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world.  Numerous Yale alumni have taken part in City Year since its founding in 1988 in Boston; the program now has 17 sites in the U.S. and one in South Africa.  City Year New York was established in 2003 to harness the rise of social concern and ­volunteerism in the wake of 9/11.

The Yale Jazz Ensemble, led by Music Director David M. Founded in 1991, the Mingus Big Band performs the music of legendary composer and bassist Charles Mingus.  Under the artistic direction of Sue Mingus, the group tours widely in the United States and abroad, and has recorded nine albums, six of which have been nominated for GRAMMY Awards.  Since 2004, the Mingus Big Band has performed every Tuesday night at the Iridium Jazz Club, which has been hailed by New York Magazine as "New York's Best Jazz Club".

Niko Higgins is a saxophonist and composer who lives in New York City where he leads the Niko Higgins Ensemble.  His two albums, "Inbetween" (2003) and "From Eye to Ear" (2006), are released by Engine Studios.

The Yale Jazz Ensemble (YJE) is an eighteen-piece big band that performs a wide variety of music, from Yale's Benny Goodman archive to the newest and most progressive jazz compositions.  The Ensemble has performed extensively in the United States and internationally at such venues as New York's Village Vanguard and London's Ronnie Scott's.  The YJE has performed with or opened for The Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, the Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin Big Band, the World Saxophone Quartet, Jane Ira Bloom, Jimmy Owens, and Branford Marsalis.

The Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project and the Yale West Indian Students Organization, in conjunction with Operation First Night, are screening a powerful film called Skid Row, a documentary that chronicles Pras Michel's 9-day experiment as a homeless man in downtown Los Angeles. Pras, a Grammy-award winning musician and former member of the Fugees, will be on campus to do a Q&A immediately following the screening.
