Special Alumni Program: Connect with Yale in New Haven

The Association of Yale Alumni invites you to an extraordinary opportunity for alumni in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and the New York City area: "Connect with Yale," a one day festival of faculty lectures, family activities, and facility tours. Extraordinary because of the wealth of activities and because the AYA is extending this opportunity to you at an incredibly affordable price $15 for the day - or $45 if you include breakfast, lunch and an afternoon reception in Yale Commons.

As Yale historian George Pierson famously quipped, "Yale is at once a tradition, a company of scholars, and a society of friends." Come enjoy the tradition, listed to the scholars, and join your friends on May 2nd. Come for one event, or come for all!

Click here for full program details and to register. We hope to see you there!

**Please join us at this fun event and contribute to a great cause!!!**

All proceeds from the race support the charity Shoe4Africa (www.shoe4africa.org), which works to use athletics on a community level to support widespread initiatives in education and health, with an emphasis of HIV/AIDS awareness. As part of these initiatives, Shoe4Africa collects new and used athletic shoes and distributes them in Africa at the popular Shoe4Africa community road races.

The 5K (3.1mi) "fun run" is open to all ages and abilities.  Participants receive a free race t-shirt, entry into a raffle prize drawing, and post-race refreshments!

If you have new or lightly used athletic shoes that youd like to donate to the cause, start looking for Run4Africa boxes around campus (e.g. at the gym, outside residential dining halls, etc.), and drop them off during the weeks leading up to the race, or at the race itself!

For more complete information, please go to www.yalebulldogs.com/ run4africa.html.  You can also go directly to online registration: http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1723003.  Discounts are available for youth and students.  Register now to guarantee t-shirt sizes and availability!

Yes We Can is the story of Barack Obama's historic journey from junior Senator from Illinois to President of the United States as documented by Scout Tufankjian, the only photographer to cover his entire nearly two-year campaign.

lWhile tourism has become the worlds largest earner of foreign exchange, famed author and Japan expert Alex Kerr argues that Japan has largely missed a great opportunity. Through extensive photographs, Kerr illustrates how poorly planned development has degraded much of Japans natural environment and destroyed many old towns and natural scenery key attractions for tourists.

However, Japan has recently discovered the power of tourism to revive depressed rural communities. This is bringing with it a new-found interest in preserving traditional buildings and protecting the natural environment. Using examples of successful historic renovation and new approaches to managing tourist sites in both rural and urban Japan, Kerr offers an innovative vision for the future of international tourism in Japan.   Moderated by Robert Fish, '93.

Join the The Ivy Plus Society (TIPS) for the launch of our brand new NYC chapter with our inaugural NYC Young Alum Party!  We'll be celebrating with dessert and cocktails at Kiss and Fly.  The Club will be open to TIPS exclusively for the party.

TIPS has been filling the nights of LA and San Fran with laughs and cocktailing Ivy Leaguers (and Ivy Plus-ers) since 2006. With all the fabulous Ivy young alums who call NYC home, of course we had to start up an outpost here - far too many dancing nights and bubbling cocktails to leave un-played and un-drunk. Stop-by our website to see snapshots of some of the fun weve had along the way and make sure to be a part of the sparkling NYC nights ahead! (www.ivyplussociety.org).

TIPS brings together young alumni from a select group of schools to create a community of talented, dynamic individuals. The chance to meet incredible people was one of the best parts of the top schools we were privileged to attend. We create fun opportunities for this exceptional group to connect here in the real world, beyond the iron-gates of our alma maters.

Advance RSVP Requested: www.ivyplussociety.org
Once you register, you will be added to the event guest list at the door. No physical ticket will be sent to you. PayPal will email you a receipt for your records.

Advance Registration will be open through 12 noon May 20th or whenever we reach capacity whichever happens first. After that, limited admission will be available at the door on a first-come-first served basis depending on venue capacity.

Description

"'Susan Yankowitz' NIGHT SKY' IS A RARE THING -- A PLAY WITH A MIND.
It is also about the mind as universe, where language is internal astronomy.
It shows us that more than hearts can be broken.
--Toby Zinman, Variety

NIGHT SKY explores what the great physicist Stephen Hawking has called the two remaining mysteries the brain and the cosmos. The play looks at what happens to a brilliant, articulate astronomer, her family and career when she is struck by a car and loses her ability to speak, a condition known as aphasia. What emerges from her mouth is a hodgepodge of disconnected words alternately poetic, funny, confusing and profound. Anna, her loved ones and colleagues, face uncommon challenges of mind and spirit as they struggle to learn new ways to communicate, and what it really means to listen.

Produced by Stan Raiff/Power Productions, New York, Inc. (producer of Broadway's IRENA?S VOW) in association with the National Aphasia Association, NIGHT SKY is written by Susan Yankowitz and directed by Daniella Topol. The play was commissioned, inspired by, and is dedicated to the memory of Joe Chaikin, the much-revered actor, director, and founder of the Open Theatre. The cast includes Jordan Baker, Lauren Ashley Carter, Dan Domingues, Tuck Milligan, Maria-Christina Oliveras and Jim Stanek.

Tickets can be purchased through www.nightskytheplay.com and www.theatremania.com and are available at the box office on the day of performance at a reduced price.

Following each Sunday performance at 3 p.m., there will be an audience discussion with the playwright, director, and actors of each show. [Subway: A, C, D, E, F (West 4th St.); N, R, W (8th St.)]

Ages 12 and up: Scallywag, M.D. tunefully adds music and song to Moliéres farce, The Doctor in Spite of Himself, where traditional roles hilariously spar. With a script by Graham Whitehead and music and songs by Ric Averill, Scallywag, M.D. runs on Saturday, June 6 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, June 7th at 3 p.m.

Ages 12 and up: The online and offline worlds of adolescent teenage girls are explored in Nasty. Teenagers lured by computer messaging and cell phone texting are propelled into a world of crisis and conflict where the creation of personal avatars offers not relief but confusion and catastrophe. Written by Ramon Esquivel, Nasty runs on Saturday, June 13 at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, June 14 at 3 p.m.

Ages 5 to 15: Bud is a contemporary play where, after a crisis, a boy and girl form a friendship which moves beyond the typical experiences of childhood. Written by Carl Miller, Bud runs on Saturday, June 20, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, June 21, at 3 p.m.

All performances are in the Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $5 for adults and FREE for children, high school students, or with a valid NYU ID. For reservations, please call 212.998.5867. For more information on the program, contact Teresa at 212.998.5256.
