When:   July 30, 2009 7:30pm-9:00pm
Where:   Greene Contemporary
9 Clinton Street, New York, NY
Type:   Arts

YAAMNY's Arts & Entertainment Committee in collaboration with Insider Expeditions presents After Hours at Greene Contemporary with Yale Alumna Hannah Cole...

Join Ms. Cole for an intimate after-hours discussion at Greene Contemporary art gallery in the Lower East Side, where Ms. Cole's work is currently showing, followed by complimentary cocktails and hors d'eouvres at nearby winebar Salt.

In Ms. Cole's solo exhibition, Instant Sublime, she explores the distracted American state of mind. She investigates the disconnect between an individual's physical presence and emotional state during a single instant in time. In the chaos of urban life, driving is one of the few remaining acts of ritual and solitude. Drawing from personal experience, Cole uses different views from inside a car as a metaphor for the relationship between interior life and the world outside.

Enjoy an exploration of the work on display and an open discussion of the motives and themes at play in the world of art today. What does it mean to be a contemporary artist?  What is happening in the contemporary art world in New York City at this critical moment in time?

Ms. Cole has served as a full-time faculty member at the School of Visual Arts at Boston University, where she taught both in Boston and in Venice, Italy. She has exhibited internationally and held artist fellowships at the Ucross Foundation and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation. Since getting her start through a Sudler Grant while a student at Yale, she has received numerous honors for her work around the world, most recently as a finalist for the Guasch Coranty Foundation International Painting Prize in Barcelona.

You can pay at the door or register today at http://yaamny-artwalkscole.eventbrite.com/.
