"Young playwright Caitlin Saylor Stephens makes a sparkling debut with her first full-length production, NESTING.

[Melissa] Wolff is excellent as Anna, at times walking around in a daze, then coming sharply into focus, trapped physically and mentally in the past.

Stephens is electrifying as Ashley, a sixteen-year-old girl desperate for something to hold on to.

And [Jonathan] Judge-Russo is solid as Frank, a caring man who finds himself caught between being hero and villain."

B) Be sure to come to one of our Potluck Dinners, Tuesday and Saturday nights throughout the run!

C) Group exhibition with works by Tomma Abts, Jo Baer, Darren Bader, Hilla & Berndt Becher, Hillary Berseth, Cosima von Bonin, Carol Bove, Roe Ethridge, Tony Feher, Alison Fox, Alex Klein, Sherrie Levine, Jason Meadows, Carrie Moyer, Alex Olson, Sarah Oppenheimer, Raha Raissnia, Pat Steir and Lily van der Stokker

We want to live with work we like, work we are curious about, work we could never own but have the chance to eat dinner with if we put it into a group show that incorporates tables, chairs, and food.  In order to understand the work, get to know it, we invite our friends and strangers to look at the work with us over a meal.  The setup rewards durational viewing.  So does abstraction.  We chose most of this work for its abstraction and or conceptualism with the intention that the participant will find sustained albeit earned nourishment in the work as well as the meals.  In addition to the individual works providing stimulus, the context provided by adjacent works inspires another level of sightlines, interruptions, jumps in conversation and information that keeps perspective un-fixed.

We have grouped an unexpected bevy of artists into a space activated by the dinner time conversation puzzling the connections and discovering the complements.

This show front and center emphasizes responsibility: we are asking for food for the needy; we are going to enforce the potluck rule; a Saturday farmstand presents the origin of food.  The artwork is streamlined towards questions of responsibility through its immediate abstraction, the up front questions of the necessity or uselessness of interpretation, the physical phenomena each piece dictates in the viewer, the burden or enlightenment of context.

Would you like to help New Haven public school students enter and succeed in college?  Do you have an hour a week to spare this semester?  If so, then join College Acceptance, and mentor a high school senior at New Haven public high school located close to Yale's campus.

College Acceptance pairs Yale students with high school students to help them with college applications, and tutor them on their writing, test taking and grammatical skills.  With your help, we can provide disadvantaged students with the same resources as students in more affluent neighborhoods - and it only takes one hour a week.  This mentorship is a great way to get involved in the community, and it is so fulfilling to help a student get into college.  This is also a great way to do something outside of the walls of Yale, and meet students from across the University.

Every day high school students in New Haven deal with inadequate resources in their quest to go to college.  Now it's time to give these students an opportunity to succeed.

If you are interested in joining the group and want to learn more about this opportunity, please come to our info meeting on September 22, Tuesday, at 8:30 p.m. in Room 122 in the Law School Building. If you are interested but cannot make it to the meeting, please email Sam Duprey at This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript   or Yunyan Sang at This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript for more information.

About the Center:

"The program works with people in New Haven who have not been reached by our addiction service system, as well as those who have tried treatment and had been unsuccessful. The Urban Initiative, a unique alliance of networked agencies, seeks to reach these people so that balance and stability may be restored to their lives. The aim of the program is to engage, motivate and support those served so that they can adopt a healthy daily routine, gain employment, and reconnect with lost relationships and opportunities

"The Taking Initiative Center is a place to foster dialogue about what the next steps may be for recovery. It is also a place where people can safely talk with their peers, consult with counselors, and just get away from their normal daily routine. Individuals can make use of free laundry facility, coffee shop, computer classes, recovery groups and extensive literature."

Fact:  smart but poor kids are 61% less likely to graduate from college than smart rich kids.  The TEAK Fellowship, whose supporters include Priscilla Morales SM'00, helps low-income students succeed at top high schools and mentors them through the college admissions process and beyond.  Three TEAK mentees have matriculated to Yale in the past five years.

DinnerGrrls.org, a women's networking group that believes in career nirvana (founded by me, JE'99), is hosting a casual mixer in concert with an official TEAK fundraiser on the LES.
