CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
NEW HAVEN SUMMER CYCLING CELEBRATION
Orange Street to East Rock, New Haven
Saturday, July 19, 2008

New Haven will host its Summer Cycling Celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on July 19, 2008. A race to kick-off the event will begin at 10:00 a.m., climbing from the corner of Orange and Farnham Streets to the summit of East Rock. The race will be followed by a festival at the summit which will include a Ferris wheel, live music, a carousel, food venders, and a rock wall, all overlooking the New Haven skyline. Rest stops and helpful volunteers will mark the ascent and will provide information and water along the way.

If you are interested in getting involved with this event, there are a variety of ways to help out as a volunteer. From 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. volunteers can help kick off the day by directing drivers to parking areas, hanging signs or balloons to designate trails, loading in equipment for musicians, or setting up tables at the summit before the race begins. Between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. outgoing volunteers can help out festival attendees by staffing information desks at the base of the trail or by maintaining rest stops along the path to the summit.

Volunteers who enjoy working with children and families can help throughout the day with entry and exit to family and childrens activities, including kite flying, the carousel, the Ferris wheel, and the rock wall. Other childrens activities include the bike decoration station and the bike parade. Between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., volunteers can also assist by picking up volunteer lunches, filling in for no-shows, and helping out other volunteers as needed throughout the day.
